Do you have a foreign driving licence and do you live in the Netherlands? Then you can initially temporarily continue driving in the Netherlands with the foreign driving licence. After that you need to convert the driving licence via your municipality.
Good to know
You can only convert the foreign driving licence if:
- You are registered in the Key Register of Persons (BRP)
- You have a valid identity or residence document
- You satisfy the conditions of the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (RDW). Go to the website of the RDW for this
For the conversion of a foreign driving licence you go to the municipality in person. You schedule an appointment for this. You submit your driving licence and after 10 working days you will receive a letter from the RDW. After approximately 15 working days you receive, if approved, your Dutch driving licence.
